Medical disclaimer

Last updated 2 September 2026

Bowcare helps you remember what was said at a doctor visit. It does not give medical advice. Please read this page before you rely on anything in the app.

Bowcare is not a doctor. It does not diagnose, treat or prescribe. For anything about your health, ask a qualified health professional. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.

Bowcare is not medical advice

  • Bowcare is a personal record-keeping tool for families. Everything you see in the app is either something you typed, something you recorded, or a plain summary of it.
  • Nothing in Bowcare is medical advice, a diagnosis, a treatment recommendation, a prescription, or a professional opinion. Bowcare does not tell you what to do about a symptom, a medicine or a test result.
  • Always follow the instructions of your own doctor, nurse practitioner, nurse, pharmacist or other qualified health professional. If what Bowcare shows disagrees with what your care team tells you, believe your care team.

In an emergency, do not use Bowcare

  • If you or the person you care for may be having a medical emergency — chest pain, trouble breathing, sudden weakness or confusion, a bad fall, thoughts of self-harm — call your local emergency number (911 in Canada and the United States) or go to the nearest emergency department right away.
  • Never delay getting care in order to open the app, find a note, or make a recording.

Not a medical device

  • Bowcare does not measure, monitor, analyse or interpret anything about your body. It takes no readings from sensors, wearables or lab systems.
  • Bowcare is not registered or approved as a medical device by Health Canada, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or any other regulator, and it is not intended for the diagnosis, cure, treatment, mitigation or prevention of any disease.

Medicines and dosing

  • The medicine list in Bowcare is a written reminder of what you or your care team entered. It is not a prescription, a dosing instruction, or a pharmacy record.
  • Bowcare does not check for drug interactions, allergies, duplicate therapy, contraindications or dose limits.
  • Never start, stop, split, skip or change the dose of any medicine because of something you read in Bowcare. Speak to your prescriber or pharmacist first.

Recordings, transcripts and translations

  • Transcripts are produced by automated speech-to-text and translations by automated translation. Both make mistakes, especially with medical terms, drug names, numbers, accents and background noise.
  • Treat every transcript and translation as an imperfect draft, not an official medical record. Check anything important against the written instructions from the clinic.
  • Recording a conversation may be subject to laws in your province, state or country. It is your responsibility to ask permission before recording a clinician or another person.

Reminders are not a safety system

  • Visit reminders and checklist reminders depend on your phone, its battery, its notification settings and your internet connection. They can be delayed or fail to arrive.
  • Do not rely on Bowcare alone for anything time-critical, such as taking a medicine on schedule, fasting before bloodwork, or arriving for a procedure.

Billing and insurance

  • The billing screen is a place to write down what a visit cost and what insurance covered. It is a personal ledger only.
  • Bowcare does not process payments, submit or adjudicate insurance claims, verify coverage, or produce official receipts or tax documents. Confirm every amount with your provider and insurer.

Sharing with caregivers

  • When you invite a caregiver or send a view-only link, you are choosing to share health information about the person in that record. Share only with people that person would want to have it.
  • Bowcare cannot verify who opens a link you have shared. You can revoke access at any time, and view-only links expire.

No professional relationship, no warranty

  • Using Bowcare does not create a doctor-patient, nurse-patient, pharmacist-patient or any other professional relationship between you and Bowcare or its team.
  • Bowcare is provided as-is. We do not warrant that records, transcripts, summaries, reminders or totals are complete, accurate, current or available without interruption.
  • To the fullest extent permitted by law, Bowcare and its team are not liable for any decision made, or any harm, loss or delay in care that follows from relying on the app. You remain responsible for your own health decisions.

Keep your own official records

  • Bowcare is a companion to — never a replacement for — the records held by your clinic, hospital, pharmacy, provincial or state health system, or insurer.
  • Keep the paper and portal copies your care team gives you. If you close your Bowcare account, everything in it is deleted permanently.
